22/3/14 On our weekly meet we decided to head to the forest for World Earth day/hour which happens this Saturday . We all made candle lanterns from jam jars to use in the dark instead of torches . We had planned to do a little star gazing but the weather was not on our side due to cloud cover and mizzle so we lit a small fire on durable ground and had toasted marshmallows told a few stories and had a short hike around the forest . We all plan to take part in Earth hour in our own homes on Saturday which starts at half 8 so by us not using electric its another little good done for our planet and we will be promoting others to do the same on Earth Hour as the saying goes every little helps

On Monday night the Cubs visited the mobile Cosmos Planetarium at Longniddry Community Centre to learn a bit about astronomy. It was a clear night and on our way there, from our Wild Place, we saw Orion, Sirius, Castor and Pollox. We saw Ursa Major, the Great Bear or Big Dipper and how, from it, we could find Polaris, the Pole Star, so important in night navigation.

A welcome sunny day in our coppice woodland processing coppiced wood by making stakes for wattle fencing and dead hedges as part of our Rural Skills Conserver Award. We noticed the beautiful colours of the freshly cut beech - pink and green and gorgeous!

Found this badger set while leading a winter tree i d walk along the Burn Anne in Galston known locally as the Burnawn today, the walk was for teaching staff from the school I work at.
