Building on our first experience of den building we did a bit of research into what would make a more stable structure. We all tried to make a classic A frame den. Exploring how to make the structure stable and cosy.

Our school wildlife garden has an old willow bower. This bower was trimmed a few weeks ago and we asked that the willow cuttings be left for our group. We used some of the whips to make some willow weaving fences. We also used potato peelers to make skewers for marshmallows!

Making the most of our school grounds today the group tried slacklining for the first time. We were mindful of our trees and how sensitive they are, we protected the tree trunks so they did not get damaged by the slackline. Working in teams we supported each other to walk across the slackline, gaining in confidence to balance by ourselves and attempt a few steps without holding hands.

At our local community garden on a freezing cold January day we explored the properties of ice. Can it take our weight.....seems it can if it is cold enough! Then we discovered that water beneath the ice looked like landscapes and works of art.

We are trying to attract songbirds back to our playground. We seem to have a team of seagulls that come in and swoop down after breaktime to eat all the dropped snacks, and we have seen less blue tits, wrens and sparrows around. We decided on a stormy day to make bird seed cakes using lard and bird seed. We then hung these from the trees around the school playground.

Our willow bower is quite a few years old and is very overgrown. Using secateurs we trimmed what willow we could reach, and wove some willow back into the willow bower. The trimmed willow will be used for art projects and fence weaving throughout the year.

On Monday Primary 7 started to investigate who John Muir but researching key facts about John Muir.

Today was simply 'AMAZING' as we embarked upon another fantastic Nature Adventure with Our Glasgow Countryside Ranger Friends! The theme for todays active learning lesson was Shapes, Senses and Colours.
