Today we planted our seeds and weeded the beds. Grace, Lara and Georgia (AKA Rachel, Chandler and Joey).

Today we took the minibus to Kinghorn for a hot drink at the café in the Community Centre. We had a good chat about what we have done, and our plans for going forward. We are looking at re-wilding the school garden with a pond and planting a small meadow in there. We will also be building new bird boxes and some furniture, to make it more of an outdoor chill out place than a formal garden, The group are all excited to move into the next stage of the John Muir journey. We then went up to the Ecology Centre in Kinghorn for a walk and an explore of the area, with Sophie taking loads of photos. I thought the photos from the café said so many words about the groups feelings about John Muir at IHS. Enjoy the break!!

Our work continued today only this time we were on the outside instead of inside The Burrell! Working again with our Countryside Ranger Friends we planned to make a start on clearing the littered that had been scattered at the Back of this fantastic building. Our intention was to add to the snowdrops that we had planted some weeks earlier however this was not to 'bee' (pollinator joke) as the task we had planned was larger than we first thought!!

There were loads of things lying around the site, plastic bottles and sweetie wrappers to swirls of tin and heavy lumps of lead! Ropes slithered like snakes from beneath the ground as we pulled and teased them from under the soil while a jagged glass glared at us like broken glass teeth from a crooked smile! Fiona and Linzi explained the importance of removing the litter and not just due to the fact that its a horrible thing to look at. Broken glass is harmful to us all while even complete bottles or jars that have been discarded can become prisons for small creatures and mini beasts! We thought the idea of throwing away your litter was a bit of a 'Back to Front' idea that made No Sense at all and we looked with a sense of dismay and pride at the large black bags of litter we had collected. However never to be downhearted we looked on the bright side as the sun poured down and the bluebells sprang into the carpet of the forest! Oh and some of us even had time for a wee lie-down!!!

This was our second visit to the Kinordy Estate, the group continued to establish the new hedge as well as maintaining last years planting. The group worked really hard to try to finish before the holidays but were beaten by time. We have the holidays coming up so a well earned break before the last part of the JMA experience but we will be back for one more day to finish the job. After the holidays we ramp up the experiences getting ready for the 'Big Adventure'.

Staff, students and Saltwells warden, Tom have thoroughly enjoyed puddling clay to make a coping using moss for the log wall habitat. The mud kitchen came in very useful for this for this task.
