At the end of the day we had one last job to do - cutting Willow branches for our Lecturer. At the outset of our adventure in nature with Fiona and Linzi we took part in a campfire cook out, roasting and toasting marshmallows on willow branches. During this earlier activity we learned a variety of skills, fire safety, using tools safely and also having fun and new experiences in nature! Our lecturer asked if we could help him to gather Willow branches as he was planning on introducing some other young people to the experience and we were only too happy to help! Working with Linzi and Fiona we selected appropriate branches, thinking about size and shape before safely removing them from the main body of the tree. It was clear to see that our confidence has grown like the seeds we have been sowing and this task was quickly completed. We talked about how Learning is a Journey and even though our time with the Invaluable Countryside Rangers may be nearing and end our journey into learning about the power of pollinators and nature is only just starting. We explored our wildlife garden this morning. We noticed some early signs of spring and looked carefully for some mini beasts. Initially it looked like there was nothing alive, but on closer inspection we found millipedes, woodlice and earthworms

This was to be the second of our two visits the the Brilliant Burrell Collection after only seeing a third of what was on show during our first visit. The main exhibition was our confidence and interest that was clear to see as we made our way throughout the beautiful building and endless items on show. Each piece gave us something to think about, discuss and learn from. We loved the doors, doorways and window frames and talked about the years that lay within them. We became our own guides and some of us reveled in the new found roles! Our active learning journey continues and a massive thank you to all at The Glasgow Burrell Collection for the fantastic experience, its little wonder people travel from all the globe to sample a taste that sits on our very doorstep!!!

S1 S&O class have been exploring their local playground. They have managed to create an outdoors exploration trail. Both groups outdoor exploration trail featured a literacy game, maths game and a sports game.

Today we went to the river to plant wildflower seeds. The previous weeks we prepared the land so we could plant these. We pressed sticks in to the ground and scattered sand over the seeds, so birds wouldn’t eat them after we watered them.

We put the seeds in the dirt and raked the dirt. And put sticks in the dirt to stop the birds eating the seeds.

This week P6/7 finally planted the seeds. Sharp shiny sticks were placed around so the birds wouldn’t eat them. Though in the process a certain someone splashed me with water.
