Primary 6/7 showed their resiliency when we headed out to the woods in heavy wind and rain. We shared some stories about how we found the good in adverse weather situations and took inspiration from John Muir at the top of a tree in a thunderstorm. We explored and created some mini national parks of our own after learning about them. Here's one which made great use of the weather and depicts a lovely wetland habitat.

Primary 6/7 were exploring and learning some ID skills through a number of different games and activities such as the one seen here - woodland whispers! In this game we lay out some different items and have to pass the message down the line to get them in the same position. We were also making some amazing tree faces out of clay and natural materials with their own backstories and names.

Primary 5/6 learned a bit about what makes a national park and the importance John Muir had in all this. We created some of our own mini national parks from natural materials with some spectacular results. We even had some minibeasts in residence.

Primary 5/6 got stuck into some tree ID through different games, activities and exploring the local woodland. We also made some amazing tree faces from clay and natural materials - giving them names and stories behind them. Here's one of those amazing tree faces - I wish we could share them all!

The TMTP Trainee team spent three days working with the Forestry Commission carrying out habitat work near Aberfoyle. On the final day we constructed an Otter Holt, a structure built next to a small burn that would provide mother otters with somewhere to raise new-borns, or even just for otters to shelter during the winter months. To gather materials for the Holt, we felled some nearby Sitka Spruce and Birch trees, stripped them of branches, and used the trunks to form the framework. The branches were then piled on top to create a roof for the shelter, as well as blending it into the surrounding environment.
