Dean country park today.

The Myplace team in central Preston are helping to develop and grow a local greenspace at Grange Community Gardens. This week we put our woodworking skills to the test and began construction on a bay of compost bins for volunteers and allotment holders to use.

This week it was time to explore! We went outside into our school grounds and familiarised ourselves with our surroundings. It was pouring of rain! We went outside and looked at different plants, trees and identified a raised bed area which we plan on conserving. We also did some teamwork activities and learned more about one another.

Primary 7 were learning about the importance of national parks and the part John Muir had to play in it all. We had a bit of an explore and created some mini national parks of our own. Here's a resident species from one of those mini national parks - the devil's coach horse beetle!

Primary 7 were learning some tree ID through different games and activities. It's important not to just know a tree by sight but make use of all of our senses to know that tree - here are some of the pupils playing 'meet a tree' and getting up close with trees. We also made some amazing tree faces from clay and natural materials with their own names and backstories.
