The students went to Hamsterley Forest to explore and discover another area within the forest. The students were given tablets and cameras to record their findings. Their task was to walk a commonly used public trail but to discover/find something that people who normally walk this trail wouldn't notice. The task was to find either something small and hidden, or a feature that people wouldn't normally see or explore.

As part of a combined John Muir and Horticulture event the students from Bishop Barrington completed the pruning, trimming and maintenance of a hedge at Hackworth Park in Shildon, working in partnership with park staff. Once the students were finished this allowed better and easier access for pedestrians and visitors to the park to walk unimpeded along the adjacent path, especially people with pushchairs. The group worked exceptionally hard and were frequently complemented by passers by. Their work towards achieving both their horticulture qualification and John Muir awards were discussed with these passers-by.
