Holiday cancelled due to the bad weather so I was back at the Dean park leading my nature walks today.

Building a Quinzee by piling up loose, powdery snow then allowing it to harden or 'sinter', by pressure before digging it out. Great fun.

Thursday 1/3/2018 was our last weekly session before our hike on the Crockmore/Crockbrack way so we started preparing for the by going through kit that we all needed to bring before heading on it . We had pre packed day sack with the items needed and appropriate clothing to be worn so everyone was well prepared . We also have a few back up plans that we had to put in place for this Sunday as the weather is not great with a sudden cold snap from the beast from east storm if the weather turns we will do a low land walk called the hudys way and still do all our wildlife/fauna surveys on whatever walk we happen to go on . Fingers crossed for the weather.

We've been collecting abandoned tree tubes from the woods to re-use. We also found lots of bird and bat boxes that had fallen from the trees years ago - hoping to make some new ones as part of our conservation work!

Knowing some pretty serious snow was about to arrive we made some simple bird feeders to hang up in the woods.

After the frozen ground stopped us planting any more trees we thought we would practice our Tree ID skills!

Our Forest Leaders led an assembly to tell the rest of the school who John Muir was and why we thought he was an important part of history. We explained about the conservation movement in America and what part John Muir played in it.
