"The Mountains are calling and I must go" - the mountains called us to Ben Ledi to help the fabulous Mountains and The People to clear the cross drains and water bars.

30.05.18 - Conservation - Today we spent 30 minutes blitzing the willow herb and picking as much as we could. Some of us spent the time picking the tiny fresh shoots which have grown in the area we have cleared and some of us looked for the tallest ones we could find and picked the. We uncovered a patch of bluebells which we cleared carefully and we also spotted a mouse. It ran away from us as fast as it could!

Day 11.

A wonderful start to the week - a day on Inchcailloch discovering and exploring this beautiful part of the National Park. Our Mission Explore: John Muir today was creating our own mini National Parks, and we also saw the deer at the end of the day - Braw!

24.05.18 Explore - During our bioblitz today we found lots of mini beasts including long horned beetles, midgies, crane fly and an orange tip butterfly. Arran found two hover flies which he told us are bee mimics. Here he is holding it, "Look it won't sting!" He told us that the hover fly has small antennae and very large eyes while a bee has large antennae and eliptical eyes.

24.05.18 - Explore and Conserve - As part of our work today we did a bioblitz of our wild area. We found lots of different species of plants which Ranger Greig helped us identify. Here is Jia Yi with some native bluebells. We learned that these are an ancient woodland indicator species. They are also protected under law as endangered species and LBAP species. They are beautiful and we're happy to be helping them out.

24.05.18 - Explore - Today we went up to work with Ranger Greig in our wild area. First we all sat together and shared our knowledge about John Muir and his life work. Then we talked about what we have done and will do for our John Muir Award. Finally Ranger Greig read a story to us about John Muir. It was really interesting - he really did love wild places!
