Shirley's team were quite simply amazing and allowed us to find our feet, looking around the nursery and meeting a whole host of lovely people going about their business, working hard and growing all the time - people and plants!! We were allowed to get involved and soon were set to work watering the pumpkin patch and learning about the different things that the pumpkins would and could be used for. We found Pumpkins called Cinderella and wondered how on earth they could go to the ball while Atlantic Giants fought over the best position to bathe in the sun!

In autumn's grasp, 'neath golden trees, A tale of spice unfolds, if you please, Amidst fields where pumpkins lie, A latte's tale 'neath harvest sky. Beneath the gilded, amber moon, A brew, infused with sweetest tune, Cinnamon whispers, nutmeg's embrace, In this cup, autumn finds its grace. Frothy whispers of autumn's delight, Ignite the senses, a cozy invite, With every sip, a tale unfolds, Of harvest dreams, where warmth holds. A symphony of flavors, dance in the air, Cloaked in spices, a taste so rare, Gather 'round the hearth's warm glow, Where pumpkin spice latte bestows its show. Amidst the rustling leaves' soft chatter, We sip this brew, as if nothing else matters, A fleeting moment, a seasonal delight, In pumpkin spice's embrace, we find respite. As fall's ephemeral hues softly fade, The memory of sips lingers, softly swayed, Until the next autumn's gentle kiss, We'll cherish this brew, in reminisce.

Active Learning is once again at the forefront of our planning and thinking and with the sun high in the sky and sun block thick on our skins we worked under the supervision of the fantastic gardeners at Silver Birch. Working in small teams using Hoses to gather water and watering cans we learned the important of watering these very thirsty plants! We learned that the pumpkins can be use for Soups, Pies and other Savoury Dishes! We also learned that they would take centre stage in the Silver Birch Halloween Nights, carved and lit on Halloween and all in the name of Stingy Jack!! We learned about the benefits of Silver Birch Mushroom Compost and seen first hand the process that it goes through to eventually produce a beautiful dark and smooth product. To see this and to spend the day with such truly excellent people was inspiring and we talked of this as we 'reluctantly' made our way onto the minibus and to our next learning adventure!!! Today was the first of what we hope will be many visits to our local Green Space - The Wonderful Springburn Park in Glasgow. We have been invited by Danielle McPhilemy Chair of Friends of Springburn Park to help with the restoration and development of the Rose Garden within the park. This was a massive job and we soon got to work, helping the Community Volunteers who were already there to help!! This was another great opportunity for us as we investigate the environment, help look after our green spaces and actively learn as we go......

Working with other people in this positive environment was a brilliant and worthwhile experience for us all, learners and staff included!! Once again we learned the value of working as a team as we removed weeds and turned the soil over before barrowing the waste to the recycle pile! We talked all the time and without realizing were boosting and enhancing our communication skills at the same time. There were many examples we could highlight that were provided by todays activity, however none of this could happen without a willingness to get involved and 'Learn'!! So with this in mind we say 'THANKS' to our Friends and The Friends of Springburn Park for another invaluable Active Learning Experience!!!
