This was the Hillside Wildflower Meadow where our previous GKC Wildflower Groups had worked in years gone by. If we needed to know why we were here today then the Wildflowers all around us provided the answer as many of them had been planted by groups who had come before us. We talked about this and decided that this was 'cool' - not my words!! Working in small groups and with our amazing support staff we managed to put our own mark on this little hillside with each learner doing much more than we had first hoped! It really was a 'bloomin' success for all involved and we look forward to seeing the colours and shapes of our work as it develops over the coming months and years....

We have loved this Active Learning experience but as our time comes to an end we see this as just the beginning of our adventure in this huge hobby that is Nature and the Outdoors! The next few weeks will see our sessions with the fantastic Glasgow Countryside Rangers come to an end but the lessons we have learned such as independence, creative thinking, collaborative working and a bit of risk taking with our decisions will continue to 'grow'!! Looking forward to next week.........Another Glorious Day, the air as delicious to the lungs as nectar to the tongue - John Muir (and us)!!!!

We visited the Barrhead Dams to build upon the pond dipping skills and knowledge that the children had been introduced to earlier in the year by the park ranger. We were armed with trays, sample bottles, magnifying jars and identification sheets. The children selected water from the main reservoir and from various stream. They identified some of the insects that they found. Whilst there they took the opportunity to explore the mud and were amazed at the varieties they found. Some of the mud was different colour and pupils drew upon their knowledge gained from working in the garden to try and guess the composition of the mud. Whilst walking to and from the reservoir, the children tried to identify wildflowers and any minibeasts that they came across. They were really impressed with the amount of butterflies they saw and are desperate to return with an identification sheet to see what that ones they can spot!

Today Chris made compost with Leaf mulch, manure fertiliser, wood chip and soil and planted on his growing flowers.
