The poster has tear off strips with the website details on it for passers by on the campsite to take. I watched John Muir clips on YouTube to find out all about him and the award scheme.

Today we went kayaking along the river from Dapdune Wharf downstream for half an hour and then back. We went with some friends and managed to do a litter pick whilst on the water! We also really enjoyed getting to go into the barge and some of the sheds which were open to explore. We told our friends about the history we had learned about the area, including how poo was taken from London and turned into gunpowder.

We decided to make the most of time after football ⚽️ and had a night time walk to see the stars ✨ listen for night time animals and also as seen in the video playing with the night time air and our torches 🔦.

KIW Trainee Deepak here. Working in Frays Farm Meadows, I've been assisting the Trust's senior ecologist, Tony Wileman, in carrying out grassland surveying, assessing the health and quality of our nature reserves. With the use of a 1m squared quadrat, we record the percentage of neutral grassland species we encounter and later relay this information to the Trust's Reserves manager, who works with our ecologist team to ensure our reserves are supporting wildlife to their best potential. On the farm, we also encounter cattle and horses who help maintain the meadow through conservational grazing; enhancing the diversity of the land.

KIW Trainee Deepak here. During my second bushcraft session, I learnt how to create a Plantain salve that can be used as a relief for bites, nettle stings and burns. The process of making the salve begins with foraging for plantain leaves which we found within our nature reserve. After collecting our leaves, we cut them into small pieces and add them to a large pot with oil. We place the pot on a fire, allowing the liquid inside to come to a steady boil. Meanwhile, we grate beeswax. Once bought to a boil, the pot is removed from the heat and the beeswax shavings are added. Once all contents are dissolved, the clear liquid is poured into jars and containers and is ready for use once in solid form!

KIW Trainee Deepak here. Spending the day at Old Lodge Farm, we carried our ragwort pulling whilst learning about the Downlands Partnership. The Partnership runs extensive conservational grazing programmes in a range of habitats where there is a need for countryside management. The farm uses sheep and cattle on site to rotationally graze the land as part of the long-term management programme.

We went to Bishop's Meadow in Farnham where the River Wey passes to identify the butterflies. It had been wet so we only spotted a Painted Lady but we learned that 17 species of butterflies have been identified on Bishop's Meadow. We also learned some history of the River Wey navigations and did a timeline of events.
