We all took 10 minutes to listen to the sound of nature. We heard lot of different birds and the sound of wind blowing in the trees. The was a sensory experience, we all felt much relaxed after being in nature.

Walk 7th Feb 2021. Lockdown continues but spring on its way. Walk into hinterland on New route to look for signs of spring. Woodpeckers are now active and in sheltered spots daffodils as well as snowdrops are now flowering. A relief from the wild weather of the last few weeks and a joy to be out.

Two family walks exploring this area. History of the mill and use and plans for restoration reviewed. Walked along river bank path and also explored in the wood and picnic area and region heading into Llawhaden but beaten back by cows at this point so a hasty retreat. Walk on 30th and 31st August 2020.

Set aside a wild area for garden and did not cut grass for several weeks. Over several days over four months took photographs and uploaded results to.irecord. Up loaded recordings from self setting eared willow bush and ox eyed daisy to common carder bee to thistle and blue fit.

We wanted to nature journal the firsts signs of Spring today but it was raining heavily when we set out so we took cameras with us instead of journals and took photos of our favourite sign of spring. When we got home we sat in the dry and drew them in our journals!

Our group have been looking at wild places near home to find signs of Spring. one of us found these snowdrops popping up just after the snow melted

Our team member XC went for a walk to Newhailes Park to see if he could spot signs of spring. In the photos you can see shoots of new flowers on the way to the park near the house - doing John Muir during lockdown is helping us to see signs of nature and new life, even in the ordinary places where we live. There is a photo of the crocuses coming up through the grass at Newhailes. The third photo shows the ways people can get involved to help with conservation at Newhailes. The last photo is of some trees and the growth under them. Our Milton Road Ranger will be updating these photos as spring goes on the see the changes to the trees and plant growth.

We would like to apply for a tree preservation order for our patch of woodland and so we did some research about how we could do this. We found the local information for our council and it doesn't sound too promising as they state "We will only apply a Tree Preservation Order if it can be demonstrated that the tree is under threat." It seems a bit late to apply for something when it's under threat as the council don't work particularly quickly (!) so we're going to send an email anyway and see what happens. The kids made some pictures to try to pull on their heart strings!
