To be economical it had to produce
Timber round logs and sawn logs for building
Smallwood from branches and young trees to make furniture
Coppice for long straight shoots for fencing
Brash for fire wood
Charcoal for making iron
Leaves and twiggy branches for fodder to feed cattle
Fruit and nuts for food.
