On Thursday 1st of February our scouts finished off the painting on the parts of the Bird/Bat boxes that were missed from the previous week . Our scouts then tagged all our boxes with SCOUTS 1 , SCOUTS 2 and so on so we know all the individual boxes than we place so we can monitor in the future after placing and hopefully we can keep adding to our boxes every year and maintain the old ones.

As part of their JMA experience P7/6 at St marks explored the local environment and added natural materials to outle new big hotel.

We also started learning about using knives safely and practiced making feather sticks.

Today we were learning about Leave No Trace firelighting. We learned to identify different tree species and got a fire going using natural tinder - with marshmallows to celebrate!

The weather was sunny and very cold. We did plant some trees and its a part of the reforestation at Abortsford House. We met two nice border collie

Weather: Torrential downpour of rain and wind. Lots of local flooding. Drove to Melrose in the college minibus. Began to explore the town when..... It became a MASSIVE downpour! We took shelter in the ancient Melrose Abby! Several of us climbed the stairs to see the old bell. Jonavan brought his HUGE fluffy dog Moki!

Did the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch around our feeders at the back of the hut today. There were visits from great tit, coal tit, blue tit, woodpigeon, magpie, blackbird, robin & dunnock. There were rooks, herring gulls and common gulls overhead. There was some disruption from a dog walker passing and three visits by a grey squirrel, despite it being encouraged to leave for the hour! At our meeting tonight the Cubs were shown the trail camera video footage showing the fox and badgers who were so active so close to where they were sleeping. They were gobsmacked.
