Spent last night with the Dean park rangers carrying out another amphibian survey.

Last week we went on some bug hunts - looking under the soil, on the ground, under logs and in the trees!

Following on from our pond dipping fun, we recreated some of the wildlife in papier-mâché 😊

This week we went wild with our papier-mâché.... we made tree faces in the woods 🌳😊🌳

Using lots of creative ideas, the John Muir Group junk-modelled some amazing rafts. The most successful were not always the obvious ones!

Our pond is a haven for wildlife - we found common newts, waterboat men/beetles, lots of larvae, pond skaters and so much more. It’s great to have such a healthy pond.

During the wild garlic season in mid April, the students ventured into the woods for a lesson on wild foraging. Choosing the safe options of wild garlic and stinging nettles, they gathered a bucketful. In the kitchens they whizzed up some garlic pesto, fried up some stinging nettles with red onion, then created pesto and stinging nettle pizzas with homemade pizza dough. We even cooked them outside using the Dutch oven,

To celebrate Pancake Day, our Tuesday John Muir group enjoyed delicious pancakes made in a Dutch Oven. They definitely taste better outside, especially with extra chocolate chips or raisins!
