Neolithic Ballykeel Dolmen - one of many archaeological features to be discovered in the Ring of Gullion.

We created an insect hotel right next to one of the wildflower patches we sowed - food, drink and shelter all laid on in one location. How can insects resist?

The fruit trees at Sapgate Lane had a lovely load of flowers when we started working on site. There are apples, plums and at least one cherry. We have been watching them develop into small fruits and learning about pollination. Unfortunately we won't be on site to harvest any fruit as a group but we have had some courgettes from the locals' veg beds :)

We have been learning about wild flowers and their co-existence with wild life such as bees and butterflies. These are ox-eye daisies but we have prepared ground and sown seeds for a couple of wild flower areas at Sapgate Lane in Thornton, West Yorkshire and they are growing well!

Spent a lovely morning in the dappled light under the trees looking at the air, water and soil cycles and changes over time. Earth walked on the way to camp where we discovered all the colours of the rainbow in the flowers and plants around us. In camp we built great shelters, making ourselves at home in the natural world and enjoyed learning new skills are fire lighting.

John Muir Award delivery (Literacy and Nature) Parklea Session 1 Date: Thursday 12th July, 2018 10am – 3pm The purpose of this session is to: Inform all of about John Muir and The John Muir Award. Encourage learners to participate Raise awareness of criteria, time commitment requirements and range of activities and recording methods involved. 9 Parklea clients, 3 Parklea workers and 2 volunteers took part in the information day. Activities included: Videos of John Muir's life and of Award in Scotland Learning about John Muir via a What's my job guessing game, playing the John Muir Quiz card game, with ref to videos and the graphic novel, Earth, Plant, Universe. Observational activities - thinking how to really look AND see and fully experience nature Producing a piece of poetry from words collected from our observations on our favourite views, using stones, charcoal and chalk. An observational nature walk around the park area, using all our senses. A speaking circle to share our experiences
