The groups joined together this week for a massive march up Falkland hill. This journey lasted 5 hours and the classes used all the teamwork skills that they had built in the previous weeks of their award. The group had a great time and saw some new amazing organisms on the way - they spotted a skylark, a kestrel and a lovely big frog. They also learned about the history of the hill and how it used to be a fort. By the end of the session everyone was all tired out but they were so glad that they accomplished such a massive task. Well done primary 5!

Today I went for a walk up Corstorphine Hill, it was quite misty and a bit rainy but surprisingly warm. It was very peaceful I only saw a few dog walkers.

For todays session we took part in The Pod - Invertebrate survey looking for worms. We dug out a 30 cm squared area of grass and looked to see what we could fine in the soil. We found 5 worms and a few red ants. We measured the worms with the smallest being 1 cm long and the longest being 5 cm long. We will upload these results and will redo this survey in June.

In the hope of getting the pine martens to visit we have put out a tasty selection for them; peanut butter and jam smeared over the branches (make sure Daddy knows not to eat the rest of that peanut butter jar when he's hungry, unless he likes it with twigs as well!), some tinned anchovies as apparently the smell will travel a long way and tempt them in, and a couple of eggs as they will take them off to their den and save them for a day when they haven't done very well at hunting. Smart animals!
