Today we explored changes over time by discovering 9 time capsule hidden in the grounds. We walked 1000 steps and got connected in a giant web of life! The young people shared their experiences of sitting quietly in the natural world and it has been a joy to spend time with such a wonderful group of thoughtful and imaginative wild space explorers.

Day two of Mountain Maintenance on paths in the Cairngorms National Park. This time Mountains & The People volunteers Nikki, Bryan and Samuel cleared 104 drainage features. It was a bit of a wild day in ever sense. It felt like we were a million miles from civilisation, in fact apart from the paths, it was difficult to spot evidence of humans. The weather was also wild, meaning we had our lunch in a storm shelter. Looking down the valleys and watching the clouds sweep through, it was easy to imagine what it would have been like when the ice sheets swept through. There was lots of Polytrichum Moss, which Rosie (from the Mountains & The People) shared her way of remembering. It looks like a jester's hat, jester's are known for playing tricks, and there are lots (poly) of them.

Regular Mountains & The People volunteers Nikki, Bryan and Samuel will be undertaking 5 days of maintenance on paths around the Glenmore Forest in The Cairngorms National Park. On the 21st May 2019 they spend the day walking the Meall a'Bhuachaille path clearing 39 drainage features as they went. It was a hard, muddy day with spells of very heavy rain. But it was great to be out in the hills and seeing the views as the rain showers passed through the valleys. It was great to see the natural regeneration of native vegetation and to see some of the well established trees which although small, are over 50 years old.

Day 2 continued our learning about nature at Ringsfield Hall. Fred, Mont and Alf created their own miniature National Park inspired by JM! This is what they said: "This is our John Muir National Park. We haven't named it yet but are thinking about it! There is a hole to play in, an underground section, a cafe, climbing centre and spider breeding centre." CFPS
