Skern Training and Skills Outdoor Department have been exploring and discovering the Lake District. Expedition on Windermere and Ullswater with plenty of stops to discuss embedding the John Muir Award in to the Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship Standard and teaching strategies. Along the way they did a litter pick on the lakes shore, (surprisingly not a lot of litter in the area - great news).

On Thursday the 11th we went out the Isle to explore Shetland. Grant and John took us to explore the magical mills of Fladdabister. We were able to follow the burn through old vertical mills, a design that is special to Shetland. We crossed back and forth across the burn until almost reaching the sea where we were lucky with the weather and stopped for lunch. On the way back we explored different flora and fauna and had a chance to stop and take in our surroundings with some quiet reflection. We all had a super day.

On Wednesday 17th May as part of the Coronation 'Big Help Out' we got involved in 'Da Redd Up' within our local community of Whalsay. It is important that we clean our island to make it even more beautiful!

We started our John Muir award back at the start of the year when we took part in the RSPB big garden bird watch and explored our local park.

We explored the park in early spring. Using watercolours we painted our favourite view.

Today we added the finishing touches to our presentations on John Muir.

Spring has sprung! We continued explore our local park and last week we celebrated all of its colours. Some of us managed to make a rainbow of colours.

Another busy week in the garden at IHS. We were litter picking, prepping more ground for the grass/wildflower mix and building seats with pallet wood and tree stumps. The garden is starting to evolve into the space we want the school to have, and we are picking plants and flowers that will encourage bees and butterflies into the garden. We've included a couple of photos of the grass starting to poke through the ground, and some of the aquatic plants that our Supported Learning John Muir group planted around the pond.
