We took a walk on the beach at Sizewell to survey the plant life in the vegetated shingle - a rare and sensitive habitat. The plants in the shingle have adapted to cope with the harsh conditions close to the strandline, where they grow. Some of them, for example, have tap roots are much as two metres long. There is a real variety of plants, which look so colourful and attract loads of insects and butterflies - we saw bees, butterflies and day-flying moths. These pictures show harebell, sea holly, sea campion and sea kale, which were among at least 30 species we found in a stretch of shingle roughly six metres wide and half a mile long.

We decided to walk through some of the areas around Sizewell that could be affected by the building of a planned two-reactor nuclear power station, called Sizewell C. There are already two nuclear power stations at Sizewell, although only Sizewell B is currently generating electricity as Sizewell A is in the process of being decommissioned. We walked through the marshes next to the Sizewell C site, which borders the beach. It's a beautiful place and a protected Site of Special Scientific interest and part of the Suffolk Coasts and Heats Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but parts of it will be lost if Sizewell C goes ahead. We saw lots of wildflowers and butterflies, heard a lot of birdsong and saw the footprints of an animal that we suspected was an otter. We passed 100-year-old Coronation Wood, which campaigners have gone to court to try and protect. There was a planning notice pinned to a gatepost, letting people know the land is affected by EDF's plans. It's really sad to think that this area might be destroyed as it is so special and irreplaceable.

Today we decided to do a litter pick along the strand line on the beach. Along the way, we also picked up some objects of interest too. We were amazed at the large number of small pieces of litter we found, especially plastic, which you wouldn't necessarily notice unless you were looking for them. We took the litter home, sorted it into piles and counted the pieces. We had 52 pieces of plastic, including lots of shreds of single-use cups; 17 pieces of fishing net and line, including one line with a hook attached, and 17 pieces of other litter, including paper, polystyrene and metal. This was from a fairly short stretch of beach, about quarter of a mile long. Among the natural items washed up from the sea that we found on the shoreline were a 'mermaid's purse' skate egg case, a whelk shell, a slipper limpet shell, bladderwrack seaweed, cuttlefish and a whelk egg case.

On the 21st I went to see the birds. I managed to find 4 nests near the areas of litter. The birds looked like pigeons. Here are some images of litter that I picked up that was close to the trees of the nests

We visited John Knox's Pulpit in Fife. This was the first time for all of us. It was a lovely walk with beautiful scenery. We took a picnic and enjoyed it down by the stream. We rolled down the hills before heading to the waterfall. Whilst there we looked at the rocks and noticed how smooth they were. This is something we want to explore further, how they came to be this way.

The waterfall was amazing. We loved having a splash in it, even our dog Charlie got involved.
