Perfect home for tiny bugs.

New growth on the woodland floor.

Our group is discovering Mall's Mire Community Woodland, an LNR in Toryglen, Glasgow. The volunteers have been taking part in Citizen Science activities with the support of Amanda Malcolm from TCV. We have done a nature walk spotting birds and different types of fungi growing in the woods: helped trial a new "Dead Good Deadwood Survey": and yesterday we did an OPAL survey of the insect life to be found in different types of habitat found in and around the woods.

It has been really windy this week with the tail end of Storm Caroline hitting East Lothian. This has resulted in the camera trap being set off because of leaf movement on the ground and then the tunnel got filled with dead leaves. We changed the position of the camera where there is a small trail and where some bird food has been left out has been removed. After a day we saw that someone else thought there may be mice or voles about!
