Over the last six weeks, Primary 6 at Inverlochy Primary, Fort William have been visiting the Rural Centre at Nevis Range to participate in many different activities including den building, tree identification, making string from nettles and lots more. All of this effort is working towards achieving the John Muir Award.
We have done lots of awesome things in our efforts to gain the award…
We learned that not all trees need the same conditions to grow and so we planted them in the different locations according to their needs – wet or dry soil.
One week, we were all given boxes and we gathered items from around the area to put in our box. We then used these items for oral story telling.
We all appreciate this amazing chance to get to learn more about our outdoor areas and about John Muir, an ordinary Scots boy, passionate about the outdoors who founded the National Parks of America. John Muir was a man of many talents. His love and enthusiasm for the outdoors was like no other love and we have all developed our own love of the outdoors through participating in these activities.
Thank you to the Rural Centre at Nevis Range for providing us with this opportunity.
