05.06.18 Rare and Exciting discovery by Morven!
-
05.06.18 - Exploring - The highlight of our day today happened just as we were packing up to go home. Morven spotted an unusual beetle and picked it up carefully to show to Ranger Greig who got really excited when she saw it as she belived it to be a very rare beetle. UPDATE: It was a Click Beetle!!! Buglife identified it as a Click Beetle, of the species Ctenicera cuprea. (now we're learning Latin) Although it is quite common across the UK there are no records here in East Renfrewshire, so we have recorded the first one & sent our records in to the national recorder. We will have made a new dot on the distribution map. More Citizen Science! It is called the Click Beetle because if it is frightened it can flick itself up in the air with a clicking sound.
