Stitching and sharing
-
It's been a month since I finished walking the John Muir Way for my Conserver level John Muir Award. I still have 8 days on my Award to complete and I've been gently totting up some more time. I've fed back to those interested in the development of the John Muir Way on my experience of walking it, including Green Action Trust and a funding body who previously supported promotion projects along it. I've been asked a lot about the walk by colleagues, volunteers and friends. At work, it was shared as an impact moment with our Exec team and in internal newsletters - hopefully raising awareness of the Award, the route and voluntary path care. And I've started the craftivism side of my Award proposal. When I was in California earlier this year I picked up a book of John Muir quotations and, along with My Boyhood and Other Stories, I've been gathering lines and paragraphs that resonate with my experience of walking coast-to-coast and am starting to craft these in different ways with the aim of using them to raise awareness and encourage action. For inspiration I stopped into the Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels where there are two stitched portraits of John Muir. I'm aiming for 10 of these small projects, which may take some time, but winter is coming and Strictly is on so plenty of sofa time ahead....
