Dipping at the Dams CCC
Carlibar Communication Centre 14 MayWe visited the Barrhead Dams to build upon the pond dipping skills and knowledge that the children had been introduced to earlier in the year by the park ranger. We were armed with trays, sample bottles, magnifying jars and identification sheets. The children selected water from the main reservoir and from various stream. They identified some of the insects that they found. Whilst there they took the opportunity to explore the mud and were amazed at the varieties they found. Some of the mud was different colour and pupils drew upon their knowledge gained from working in the garden to try and guess the composition of the mud. Whilst walking to and from the reservoir, the children tried to identify wildflowers and any minibeasts that they came across. They were really impressed with the amount of butterflies they saw and are desperate to return with an identification sheet to see what that ones they can spot!
