Small mammal session 17th December 2021

We started the morning by looking at the latest camera trap footage from the sky table and observed a family of buzzards .
Next we discussed the sea eagle that has been sighted nearby and what it is doing here . To end our catch-up we discussed why we had observed bats out hunting this week and concluded that because of the warmer weather they had come out of taupor to hunt .

In the next part of the session we each gave an individual presentation ; mine was about moles .

We then learned about harvest mice and watched a short film about how they are bred and then introduced to crop fields to keep the population healthy .

For our practical activity we went our looking or harvest mouse nests on the reserve and found a few !
