The Coracle: Creating the Skeleton
Diving Cormorant 26 MarThe coracle begins to take shape as we insert our collected whips into a square frame. Creating the frame allows us to ensure that the coracle will be well balanced and as close to symmetrical as possible. Before the whips could be slotted into the frame, we used tools to whittle their ends to fit the holes. Over time, with the frame holding the whips in place, the coracle will become a solid structure. Working outdoors in the cold can be tough, but with a fire fuelled by offcuts and collected kindling to keep us warm, plus plenty of action, we stayed toasty and enjoyed the great outdoors. Next step: weaving!
